Persephone is a goddess who was worshipped by the ancient Greeks. She was abducted from her mother Demeter and taken to the underworld by the god Hades. She spends half her year with her mother (spring and summer) and the other in the underworld (autumn and winter). She is a prime example how women are often connected with the land.
