This is one of the first pieces I created in this medium. It is another one of my works inspired by portraits of women in the Renaissance. In college I read the paper "Women in Frames: The Gaze, the Eye, the Profile in Renaissance Portraiture," by Dr. Patricia Simons. Her thoughts concerning women of this time stayed with me.The majority of women of the Renaissance did not play an active role in that culture because they were thought of as inferior; less-than; other. The girl in this piece is giving the finger to those who see women as anything less than capable.
